About my art
In my ceramic practice, I am drawn to the different expressions of clay and the way the material transforms through making. I work with both slip casting and hand-building, exploring their structural and expressive possibilities. A material-led approach and the visible trace of the making process are central to my work.
I am interested in how form emerges through repetition, variation, and surface. The making process allows space for experimentation, where each piece develops its own character through firing and glazing. My work moves between sculptural objects and ceramic forms that invite close observation and tactile experience.
My background is in product design: I studied product design at Kuopio Academy of Design from 2001 to 2005, specialising in precious metals, and studied ceramics as a minor subject in 2004. Alongside my professional design practice, I have continued to work with ceramics, returning to it as an active practice in 2021. This background is reflected in my broader portfolio, which includes earlier physical products such as jewellery etc. alongside my ceramic work.
